Asif Chowdhury

Asif Chowdhury is currently working as a key member of the executive management team of a global semiconductor company. He has worked in the high-tech world of semiconductors for over 30 years. From a very early part of his career, Asif’s work has taken him all over the globe and exposed him to various cultures, languages and traditions. Apart from his home in the United States, he has spent considerable amount of time in Asia particularly in Tokyo, Japan, Seoul, South Korea and Singapore. During his 4-year expatriate assignment in Tokyo working on business development, he had worked with all the top Japanese semiconductor companies and travelled extensively all over Japan. Asif also lived in Seoul, Korea for three years on a separate expatriate assignment and spent time traveling around the country. While a semiconductor professional, his passions expand beyond technology and equally lies in world history, culture, politics, world travel, reading and of course, writing. Asif’s works have been published in various magazines and semiconductor trade journals. He is a regular contributor to Living in Singapore, a bi-monthly magazine published by the American Association of Singapore. He is frequently interviewed by many semiconductor magazines and newspapers.

Most recently, his first book about the Japanese work culture titled A Gaijin Sarariman has been published by Penguin-Random House. Originally from Bangladesh, Asif moved to Texas during his teen years. He started his career in the semiconductor industry in Irving, Texas, a suburb of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex and then later moved to Phoenix, Arizona, Tokyo, Seoul and ultimately to Boston, Massachusetts. Asif holds a BS in Mechanical Engineering from University of Texas at Arlington, an MS in Mechanical Engineering from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, an MS in Finance and an MBA from Northeastern University in Boston.

Asif is currently living in Singapore with his wife and son. His daughter who is also a mechanical engineer is working for a global aerospace company in the state of Indiana. Asif considers both Boston, Massachusetts and Arlington, Texas to be his home.
